HUAWEI DIGITRUCK DANS LE SUD DU SENEGAL : LE NUMERIQUE AU SERVICE DE L’INCLUSION TERRITORIALE
In the regions of Kolda, Tambacounda, and Ziguinchor, located several hundred kilometers from Dakar, significant challenges related to access to education and digital technology remain. Geographical remoteness, low literacy rates, and limited access to digital infrastructure hinder the professional integration of young people, particularly young women, who are often confronted with the realities of early marriage at a very young age.
Faced with these challenges, the Digitruck , an initiative led by Huawei Senegal, provides a concrete and structuring response to reduce the digital divide and promote inclusion.
1. A mobile classroom at the heart of the territories
The Digitruck is a truck designed from a shipping container converted into a modern digital classroom.
Equipped with computers, fully connected thanks to the support of SONATEL ORANGE and energy self-sufficient, it can be deployed in the most remote areas of the country.
The program is implemented in collaboration with the NGO Close the Gap and benefits from the institutional support of the Ministry of Youth of Senegal, which supports its deployment on the ground.
2. Training programs tailored to the needs of young people
The courses offered in the Digitruck focus on:
Basic computer skills,
CV writing and preparation for employability,
cybersecurity,
. robotics.
The modules are modular and adapted according to the level and needs of the participants, thus guaranteeing an inclusive and personalized educational approach.
Each municipality hosts a cohort of 100 trained young people , i.e. 400 young people per region .
This structured approach ensures a significant and measurable impact in each territory covered.
A national impact, with particular attention to the South
Since its launch in June 2023, the DigiTruck has traveled through 13 regions of Senegal and trained more than 5,000 young people . The national tour will conclude in Kaffrine in May 2026.
In the South, the program has notably been deployed in the municipalities of Koussanar, Missira, Bandafassi and Salémata.
In these territories far from major urban centers, the Digitruck represents much more than training: it constitutes a lever for empowerment, openness and projection towards the future.
Strong mobilization of local authorities
At each stage, the administrative and municipal authorities demonstrated their commitment to the project.
In Koussanar and Missira, the prefectures organized official graduation ceremonies, expressing their gratitude for this initiative in favor of local youth.
In Bandafassi, the authorities wanted to mark the end of the training with a solemn ceremony to award certificates, demonstrating their gratitude to the Huawei Senegal team.
In Salémata, the training began with a meeting with the municipal authorities, who expressed their support and assistance throughout the ten days of training.
This institutional recognition confirms Digitruck's alignment with local and national priorities for inclusion and skills development.
A lever for empowering young girls
In areas where gender inequalities remain marked, access to digital skills is a determining factor in empowerment.
By giving young girls the necessary tools to understand and master digital technology, the Digitruck:
strengthens their confidence,
broadens their career prospects,
. promotes their employability,
. contributes to reducing the risks of socio-economic exclusion.
A lasting commitment to digital access for all
Through the Digitruck, Huawei Senegal reaffirms its commitment to inclusive, equitable and sustainable digital development.
More than a truck, the Digitruck is a gateway:
a bridge between remote territories and the digital economy, between youth and employment, between potential and opportunity.
By bringing technology closer to communities, Huawei Senegal is actively contributing to building a future where digital technology becomes a vector of equal opportunities for all.
Present in Senegal since 2005, Huawei Senegal supports the country's digital transformation through innovative solutions in the fields of telecommunications, cloud, digital energy and information technology.
Through its corporate social responsibility initiatives, including the Digitruck program, Huawei Senegal is working to develop local skills, promote digital inclusion and reduce territorial inequalities, thus contributing to the building of a sustainable and competitive digital ecosystem.
