Technologies numériques : Le programme Jigeen Gëstu Digital forme les femmes aux outils de l'intelligence artificielle
Artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a major technological revolution, but access to this sector remains deeply unequal. Globally, women represent only 22% of AI professionals. Furthermore, according to the International Labour Organization (ILO), they are three times more likely than men to be affected by job automation. It is within this socio-economic context that the Senegalese association She Codes From 221, chaired by Aïta Mbaye, is organizing the second edition of its training program, "Jigeen Gëstu Digitaal" (Women in Digital Skills).
Dedicated this year to the theme "Women & AI: Opportunities and Challenges", the program will take place mainly online from July 20 to 25, 2026, before concluding with a physical event in Dakar on August 8, 2026.
Following a first edition that reached 750 people, the initiative now aims to train 1,000 Senegalese women. Targeting criteria include age range (18-35 years), professional status (job seekers and entrepreneurs), and geographical location (particular attention is given to women from the interior regions of Senegal).
The challenge is to address the imbalance in the global technology sector where, as the founder points out, women represent less than a third of the global workforce despite their weight in the active population.
Technical content and targeted skills
The training is structured around nine thematic pathways, grouped into three main pillars of learning.
The first part focuses on productivity and career development, with the use of generative AI such as ChatGPT for time management, optimization of professional profiles on networks like LinkedIn and the creation of administrative files.
The second pillar focuses on business and entrepreneurship. Participants learn to model business plans, design digital marketing strategies, automate project management, and develop websites using no-code technologies. Finally, the last pillar combines advanced technology and leadership, introducing learners to the design of personalized AI agents while strengthening their communication and management skills.
