Bus connectés, TER et BRT sur le même billet : Dakar Dem Dikk fait sa mue
A major technological turning point for Dakar Dem Dikk (DDD). The national transport company officially inaugurated its new Operational Control Center (CCO), a state-of-the-art facility, on Monday, July 6, 2026. Named in honor of Ms. Sofiatou Mbodj, an employee who dedicated over 30 years to the company, this center symbolizes both the recognition of its staff's contributions and the company's commitment to modernizing public transport.
During the ceremony, the CEO of Dakar Dem Dikk, Assane Mbengue, emphasized that this achievement represents the culmination of the company's extensive digitalization project. "We have moved from an operational model where data was not controlled to one based on real-time information," he explained.
Real-time tracking and onboard video surveillance
From the new Operations Control Center (CCO), teams will be able to continuously track the position of buses, monitor traffic conditions, communicate directly with drivers, and quickly make adjustments to different routes to improve service quality. The center also incorporates an onboard CCTV system that provides real-time viewing of the interior and exterior of vehicles, thus enhancing safety.
For users, this transformation will result in better information on the network and timetables, but also in the upcoming arrival of a modern ticketing system.
Interoperability: A single ticket for TER, BRT, DDD and AFTU
The director general announced the implementation of a single ticket that will allow travel using multiple modes of transport thanks to an interoperable system. "With this ticket, users will be able to travel on Dakar Dem Dikk buses and other transport networks, including AFTU buses, the Regional Express Train (TER), and the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)," he explained. This development aligns with the authorities' ambition to build an integrated transport system that meets the standards of major metropolitan areas.
This transformation will, however, lead to the gradual disappearance of the postmaster's job. "The postmaster's job will disappear, we shouldn't be afraid to say it," acknowledged Assane Mbengue, while also seeking to reassure: "While the postmaster's job will disappear, there will be no job losses. This postmaster corps will find its place in development."
A project with zero cost on the initial budget
On the financial front, Assane Mbengue explained that the CCO was integrated into the initial project through renegotiation with partners, without requiring any additional resources. "No extra funding was needed. We completed this project within the initially allocated budget while improving the technical solutions," he stated.
The DDD official also announced that the authorities are preparing programs to gradually strengthen and renew the vehicle fleet.
The technological foundation before the arrival of new buses
Speaking at the event, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport, Ababacar Fall, praised the commissioning of a "state-of-the-art" center. According to him, the CCO combines several major innovations: an operational support system, a passenger information system, an integrated ticketing platform, and a video surveillance network.
The ministry representative also confirmed that new buses will soon be added to the Dakar Dem Dikk fleet: "We have chosen to build the technological foundation first so that the new buses can be operated in better conditions and last over time," he said.
With this Operational Control Centre, Dakar Dem Dikk is entering the era of intelligent transport, paving the way for more efficient, safer and more integrated mobility for the benefit of users.
