Échec des négociations avec Yankhoba Diémé : les transporteurs annoncent la poursuite de la grève
The standoff between the government and road transport operators is taking a worrying turn. According to reports in Le Soleil Digital, no common ground was reached this Sunday, April 5, during the emergency meeting convened by Minister Yankhoba Diémé. After six days of traffic disruption, hopes for a resolution vanished after nine hours of fruitless closed-door discussions.
The minister and the union leaders are still not on the same page. Despite this overture from the authorities, positions remain entrenched on the ten demands put forward by the inter-union group. At the end of this marathon meeting, the verdict from Alassane Ndoye, president of the Federation of Road Transporters of Senegal, was unequivocal: "No point of agreement was reached."
The union leader criticized the lack of concessions from the supervisory authority. He stated that the minister had provided no satisfactory response to any of their demands. "As union members, we are not satisfied with this meeting," lamented Alassane Ndoye. He pointed to the minister's stance, which he deemed "unconciliatory," arguing that this lack of compromise only exacerbates an already volatile situation.
Aware of the social impact of this movement, the head of the transport workers' union stated that he understands the suffering of passengers, while remaining firm on the next steps. "We will consult with our members to report on this meeting and the decision regarding whether or not to continue the strike," he explained, emphasizing that this consultation was the only "concession" the federation granted the minister following the discussions.
As the impasse persists, union leaders are now making any resolution to the crisis conditional on a genuine commitment from high-ranking state authorities to unblock the sector.
