Hadj 2026 : Découvrez l'innovation majeure d'Air Sénégal pour les pèlerins
A set of three suitcases, including two 23 kg bags and one 10 kg carry-on bag: this is what each pilgrim will now receive from Air Senegal. A symbolic handover of these suitcases to travel agencies took place on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the Pilgrims' Hangar of Léopold Sédar Senghor Military Airport. This measure aims to standardize transportation, simplify travel for the faithful, and ensure optimal logistical management.
To optimize logistics, Air Senegal has introduced a color-coded system. "Yellow suitcases are for travel agencies that have opted for direct pilgrimage, while green suitcases are reserved for pilgrims transported by the General Delegation," explained Hann Samba Sall, president of the Hajj committee. Red suitcases are for those using the combined booking system. This classification will "facilitate return logistics" and "better manage thousands of pieces of luggage."
Major General Mamadou Gaye, the pilgrimage's delegate general, hailed it as "a major innovation." According to him, this approach helps prevent lost luggage and fraud, while also facilitating the work of ground staff.
Private travel agencies see this measure as a major step forward. Dado Ndour, director of the Ndoura Voyage agency, believes this organization will resolve a crucial problem: "Last year, luggage was left stranded in Saudi Arabia, creating numerous difficulties for agencies and pilgrims." El Hadj Mansour Samba, coordinator of the Relax Voyage agency, added that this will greatly facilitate "luggage identification upon arrival."
This initiative also falls within the framework of Senegal's participation in the "Tariq Maka" initiative. This system allows immigration formalities to be completed directly in Dakar, thus avoiding two to three hours of arduous waiting after a long flight. Pilgrims will now be able to retrieve their luggage directly at their respective hotels.
Finally, for the first time, the flight schedule was released as early as September 2025, more than six months before departure. A total of 27 flights are planned, with the first departure scheduled for May 8, 2026, and return flights staggered between May 31 and June 11, 2026. A training and awareness session for guides and agencies is also planned for next week at Air Senegal headquarters.
