The control and clearing operations effectively began this morning in Petersen, as well as along all the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes in Dakar. This action is part of the enforcement of the Dakar prefect's order prohibiting the circulation of hand-pulled and animal-drawn vehicles within the BRT's catchment area.
On the ground, law enforcement and relevant services are strictly enforcing the measures stipulated in the prefectural decree, including the immobilization of rickshaws and carts traveling or parked on the affected roads. The stated objective of the authorities is to restore traffic flow and ensure the safety of road users, particularly pedestrians, who are often confronted with chaotic occupation of public space.
According to administrative authorities, these operations also aim to put an end to the recurring disruptions observed on the BRT routes, which compromise the proper functioning of the new traffic plan.
The start of operations in Petersen thus marks an important step in the effective implementation of the prefectural decree.
State services remind that these operations will continue along the entire BRT route and invite the users concerned to strictly comply with the regulations in force, under penalty of sanctions provided by law.
