Kaolack : Les conducteurs de motos Jakarta dénoncent l’obligation d’un second casque pour les clients
In Kaolack, motorcycle taxi drivers expressed their opposition on Monday, April 13th, to the recent decision by authorities mandating helmet use for motorcycle taxi passengers. While they acknowledge the need for drivers to wear helmets, they deem the requirement for passengers to wear a second helmet "ill-considered and unacceptable," according to Dakaractu.
Mamadou Mbodji, the spokesperson for the day, warned of the health risks associated with this measure. According to him, a helmet used by dozens, even hundreds of people every day, in temperatures exceeding 40°C, becomes a vector for the transmission of diseases: scalp fungus, ringworm, lice, skin infections, scabies, tuberculosis, among others. "No motorcycle taxi has the means to effectively disinfect a helmet between each customer. Asking a student or a father to wear a helmet soaked in sweat and already used by strangers is to impose a real health risk on them," he explained.
Beyond the health aspect, drivers believe the measure is difficult to implement in practice. They urge the authorities to reconsider their decision and find more suitable solutions to protect customers without exposing them to new dangers.
