Tivaouane : Les bus et les gros-porteurs menace la sécurité des riverains
In Tivaouane, residents are worried about the chaotic traffic of buses and heavy goods vehicles, particularly in the neighborhoods. This is despite the detours put in place following the closure of National Route 2 as part of the road reinforcement work on the Thiès-Kébémer road.
In a press release dated December 18, 2025, the prefect announced the suspension of traffic on this route, from the intersection to the level crossing towards Saint-Louis, until December 31, 2025.
To ensure traffic flow, detours have been established. Vehicles coming from Thiès are being redirected to the bypass at the bus station, passing through the Auchan area, before rejoining the RN2 near the monument. Those coming from Méckhé must take the route from the monument towards the Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabbakh Hospital to rejoin the RN2 at the Auchan shopping center.
However, local residents say they have observed that these instructions are not always being followed. Several drivers have reportedly chosen to take shortcuts, crossing internal roads located in the neighborhoods of Kouly, Ndout, and Keur Matar.
Therefore, the residents are requesting the intervention of the competent authorities for a rigorous application of the measures taken, with the aim of guaranteeing the safety of residents and preserving the tranquility of the neighborhoods crossed.
