Addiction aux jeux : 10 % de la population touchée, la Lonase passe à l'offensive !
Senegal is facing a worrying rise in gambling addiction, now considered a serious public health issue. According to some studies, nearly 10% of the population is affected by this phenomenon, which often has serious social and economic consequences.
To address this situation, the Senegalese National Lottery (Lonase) and the Dakar Integrated Addiction Care Centre (CEPIAD) sealed a strategic partnership this Wednesday, March 18, 2026, aimed at strengthening the prevention and care of dependent people.
A convention with strong ambitions
During the signing ceremony, the Director General of Lonase, Dr. Toussaint Manga, emphasized the responsibility of his institution:
“We have a social and civic responsibility towards our players. It is essential to guarantee responsible gaming practices and promote a healthy environment,” he said.
Professor Aïda Sylla, head of the psychiatric department and coordinator of CEPIAD, welcomed this initiative, which she considers a major step forward: "This agreement marks a turning point in the fight against gambling addiction. It will allow us to better understand the mechanisms of addiction and to implement effective prevention and treatment strategies," she explained.
Concrete measures announced
This partnership includes several structuring actions, notably the funding of research work (theses, dissertations, surveys), as well as continuing education for healthcare professionals and teams specializing in the management of addictions.
Through this collaboration, Lonase and CEPIAD demonstrate their shared commitment to sustainably combat gambling addiction, while also contributing to the promotion of public health in Senegal.
