Ancienne ministre de la santé, auteure, … : Dr Safiétou ou l’endurant combat contre le VIH/SIDA
Having dedicated over two decades to public health and held high-ranking political positions, Dr. Safiétou Thiam needs no introduction in Senegal. Under President Wade, she successfully fulfilled her role as Minister of Health and Prevention from 2007 to 2009. An inspiring figure in the fight against AIDS, Dr. Safiétou Thiam has left her mark on history and the public consciousness through her commitment, perseverance, and positive impact.
Featured on the program "Sitöé," the public health physician, HIV/AIDS specialist, and executive secretary of the National AIDS Council (CNLS) shares her journey, marked by her convictions and struggles for human and women's rights. She also discusses her battles, values, and principles.
In response to the recent heated controversies surrounding HIV/AIDS, Dr. Thiam sought to be clear and transparent. She clarified the facts about the disease, from its mode of transmission and the essence of antiretroviral treatment to the penalties for intentionally transmitting the disease, as well as the disclosure of the serological status of infected individuals.
Dr. Thiam also shared her experience as a minister in her memoir entitled "In the modesty of words. My life as a female minister".
