Caravane : Le Fouta accueille Farba Ngom triomphalement, après son élargissement de prison
It was around 11 p.m. that Farba Ngom was welcomed in his stronghold in Agnam, after Linguère, Loumel Lana, Ranérou, Trao Dendoudy, Danthiady, Ourossogui, Boynadji, Sinthiou Mogo, Haéré Seddo, Doumga Ouro Alpha at Thierno Mamadou Lamine Ly, Bokidiawé and Thilogne.
Organized by the Popular Resistance Committee for the Liberation of Farba Ngom, this caravan, which left Dakar around 7:00 a.m., reached its destination. Everywhere it went, crowds turned out to welcome their son back after 14 months of captivity.
In Ranérou, the deputy mayor of Agnam arrived around 3 p.m. under a blazing sun. He was greeted by supporters and sympathizers at the home of Mayor Amadou Harouna Diallo, under the watchful eye of the gendarmerie. There, after expressing his joy and warmly thanking the people for their turnout despite the heat, Farba Ngom, standing in his vehicle, headed towards Ourossogui.
Arriving in Ourossogui at 5:48 PM, Farba Ngom received a grand welcome from his party colleagues and all the political leaders, as well as people who had come from all over the department. Mayor Moussa Bocar Thiam, also a member of the People's Resistance Committee, was the most conspicuous absentee. He received the heartfelt thanks of the mayor of Agnam.
“Farba arri” (Farba has arrived), “Farba Ngom Tan” (Farba Ngom only), “Fouta Fier”, read the T-shirts bearing Farba’s image.
Like these localities, the deputy mayor of Agnam was welcomed everywhere by young people, adults and old people like a king in his kingdom.
But the people of Agnam commune broke all records. Overwhelmed with nostalgia, they gave their mayor a triumphant welcome, with full honors. Since morning, they had thronged the road and Farba Ngom's home, determined not to miss out on the story.
Fireworks, Jakarta motorcycles, cars, and other vehicles all made a great deal of noise to express their joy at the arrival of their mayor. As elsewhere, Farba Ngom also addressed his constituents, particularly the youth. "I greet the Senegalese people. After 14 months of detention, I have regained my freedom today, and this is not my doing but that of my lawyers. That is why I thank them for their commitment," he emphasized.
He added: “I left Dakar at 7:00 a.m. and went to see Thierno Mamadou Lamine Ly. We haven't planned a rally because to do so, we first need to submit a request for authorization. This mobilization is the initiative of the People's Resistance Committee, which has led the fight from my imprisonment until my release. And I thank each and every one of them for their commitment and determination. I thank all of Senegal, including religious leaders, politicians, the national and international press, and civil society, among others.”
The politician took the opportunity to wish his mentor, Macky Sall, good luck in his bid for the position of UN Secretary-General. "Since we are here, we extend our hand to ask for God's prayers for a resounding victory, without any dispute," Farba Ngom remarked, before clarifying that he is a politician and remains loyal to Macky Sall.
