The city of Touba is hosting a training session from April 17 to 19, 2026, organized by the Central Zone branch of the Convention of Young Reporters of Senegal (CJRS). The workshop is designed for 35 media professionals from the Diourbel, Kaolack, Fatick, and Kaffrine regions.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Daouda Mbow, Deputy to the Sub-prefect of Ndam, representing Sub-prefect Abdoulaye Kharma. Mayor Abdou Lahat Ka was represented by El Hadj Fallou Ndiaye.
In his address, the National President of CJRS, Mamadou Diagne, emphasized the necessity of equipping journalists in the Central Zone with the same skills as their colleagues in Dakar. This training will enable them to distinguish true information from false and better serve the public. He was accompanied by Ahmadou Diao, a member of the steering committee, and Fatima Lo, a fact-checking trainer.
For his part, the President of the Central Zone branch, Modou Sène, explained that Touba was chosen due to its high concentration of web TV stations, news websites, and young reporters. The city faces a concerning reality of widespread misinformation.
The training focused on three main areas: combating misinformation and fact-checking techniques on the first day; an introduction to artificial intelligence tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, and NotebookLM) on the second day; followed by sessions on ElevenLabs and Anthropic's Claude on the third day, concluding with a general synthesis and the closing ceremony.
