Crise du Golfe : Léna Sène alerte sur la dépendance énergétique de l'Afrique et propose des remèdes
Léna Sène, President of the firm DCA Africa, was among the guests this week on Al Jazeera English television to discuss the energy crisis induced by the crisis in the Middle East and the solutions that can enable our countries to cope.
The internationally renowned financier began her speech by highlighting the realities that mean Africa is not spared. "Although Africa produces about 8% of the world's crude oil, it only refines 2%. This dependence on imported refined products (such as diesel and gasoline) creates an immediate vulnerability," she said.
Regarding the specific case of Senegal, Ms. Sène explains: “Although the country began producing oil in 2024, the current government is advocating monetary and fiscal discipline to offset rising global energy costs.” She clarifies, however, that the consequences extend beyond the simple issue of energy and also affect food security.
In terms of solutions, the CEO of DCA Africa and her fellow debaters advocate strengthening intra-African trade in energy products to reduce dependence on Asian and European markets, modernizing infrastructure so that crude oil extracted in Africa is also processed there, and diversifying sources to stabilize their economies.
