Diourbel-Louga : La ministre Maïmouna Dièye célèbre les femmes et annonce 350 millions FCFA

As part of the preparations for International Women's Day on March 8, 2026, celebrated this year under the theme "Rights, Justice, Action for all women and girls", Senegal has launched a National Women's Week in the form of a national caravan covering the eight (08) territorial hubs of the country, from March 1 to 8, 2026.

It is in this context that the Minister of Family, Social Action and Solidarity, Maïmouna Dièye, made a stop on March 2, 2026 at the Diourbel-Louga territorial hub, on the second day of the caravan, after the official launch in Mbour, in the Thiès territorial hub, on March 1.

In front of the people of Diourbel and Louga, the minister immediately conveyed the congratulations and encouragement of the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, and of the Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, before paying tribute to the exceptional mobilization of the women of the region.

While praising the commitment of the administrative and territorial authorities under the leadership of Governor Ibrahima Fall, she recalled the central role of women in the local economy:

“The economic and social recovery of Senegal will never happen without the territories, much less without women. It is women who cultivate, process and market agricultural products. It is women who bring life to the weekly markets. It is women who support family livestock farming, develop crafts, agri-food processing and small businesses and ensure the survival and dignity of the family. It is therefore women who form the foundation, but an invisible foundation, oh so essential, for the maintenance, even the vitality of the economic fabric of this great territory,” she declared.

Beyond the speech, Maïmouna Dièye put her words into action by distributing food to those in need. She also announced a national women's empowerment program, backed by a budget of 350 million CFA francs earmarked for women in the Diourbel region.

The closing ceremony of National Women's Week is scheduled at the Grand Theatre on Sunday, March 8, 2026, starting at 10 a.m., where women representatives from the eight territorial hubs will present the conclusions of their work.
