On Thursday, May 7, 2026, Senelec officially inaugurated the Kaël agro-sylvo-pastoral farm in the Mbacké department of the Diourbel region. The ceremony was held in the presence of Birame Soulèye Diop, representative of the Minister of Energy, Petroleum and Mines; Mabouba Diagne, Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock; the Deputy Governor of the Diourbel region; the Deputy Prefect of the Mbacké department; the Sub-Prefect and Mayor of Kaël; and Papa Toby Gaye, Director General of Senelec.

This farm, developed on 4 hectares, was established as part of the Livelihood Restoration Program (LMP) of the Kaël solar project. It constitutes an integrated production platform combining cattle breeding, forage agriculture, and an economic organization structured around the beneficiaries' Economic Interest Group (EIG). The infrastructure includes modern buildings, a poultry house, a multi-purpose storage shed, a solar pumping system, and technical facilities.

Speaking on behalf of the Director General of Senelec, Bassirou Sylla, Director of Quality, Safety and Environment, emphasized the significance of the event.

“The ceremony that brings us together today goes far beyond a simple inauguration. It embodies a strong conviction at Senelec, based on the fact that the energy transition can only be fully successful if it simultaneously generates economic and social value for the population alongside electricity,” he declared. He specified that the program represents a total investment of over 471 million CFA francs, in addition to direct compensation, support for vulnerable people, and community investments.

Speaking directly to the beneficiaries, he urged them to make this farm "a high-performing production model, an example of community management, a national benchmark, and a symbol of collective success."

The Minister of Agriculture, Mabouba Diagne, praised the quality of the project. "We have seen how this solar project has not only been well-structured and well-designed with modern financing, but also how its social and economic impact has been very well studied," he declared, commending Senelec's investment of nearly half a billion CFA francs in this agro-ecological project. He reiterated his ministry's commitment to further support this type of initiative, while also calling on his fellow ministers to integrate social responsibility measures into their respective projects.

The mayor of Kaël, for his part, welcomed Senelec's initiative on behalf of the people.
