The Governor of the Diourbel region, Ibrahima Fall, chaired a Regional Development Committee (CRD) meeting yesterday focused on preparations for the upcoming Darou Salam Magal, scheduled for around May 7 or 8, 2026. The meeting brought together regional department heads and members of the organizing committee for this religious event, which commemorates the return from exile of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba.
Several key sectors were reviewed. For healthcare, five advanced medical posts will be deployed to reinforce existing facilities, supported by four ambulances and stocks of medicine.
The regional hygiene brigade will conduct disinfection operations one week before the event, in collaboration with the Mbacké municipality. A major clean-up day is also scheduled for May 1, 2026, with support from SONAGED providing equipment and personnel.
Regarding energy, the national utility company Senelec will establish five temporary power connections three days before the Magal and will provide a generator to the organizing committee. Defense and security forces will ensure the safety of people and property, with reinforced night patrols to deter criminal activity and reassure pilgrims expected from across the country. Market control services will monitor proper supply and price compliance.
The Governor entrusted the Prefect of the Mbacké department with overseeing the commitments made during this meeting. He also extended greetings to the Grand Khalifa of the Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Bachir Mbacké, and to the Khalifa of Darou Salam, Serigne Abdo Mbacké, requesting their prayers for the nation and for the authorities of the Republic.
