Port de Dakar : Waly Diouf Bodiang lance une campagne de consultations médicales gratuites au profit des retraités

The Autonomous Port of Dakar (PAD) is committed to the health of its retirees. Its Director General, Mr. Waly Diouf Bodiang, who also serves as Chairman of the PAD Foundation Board, launched a campaign of free medical consultations for the company's dedicated retirees on Monday, November 3, 2025, under the theme: "The PAD, at the bedside of its retirees." The official ceremony, held at the PAD headquarters in Dakar, was attended by Technical Advisor Dr. Ciré Diop, representing the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene; the Chairman of the PAD Board of Directors, Mouhamadou Ngouda Mboup; and others. The entire Port of Dakar retirees' association was also present.

A first edition organized in partnership with the Ministry of Health

This first edition of the free consultation and care campaign for retirees of the Autonomous Port of Dakar (PAD) is organized by the PAD Foundation, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene. It aligns with the Port of Dakar's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) approach, which prioritizes addressing the needs of its ecosystem, particularly its dedicated retirees who have loyally served the institution.

During this campaign, which will take place from November 3 to 7, the foundation plans to consult 200 of the oldest retirees in the PAD with general practitioners and specialists (Cardiology, Diabetology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Urology and Gynecology); and to provide medical follow-up for the most particular and sensitive cases with the Ministry of Health.

"It is fully in line with the PAD's social policy."

During this meeting, which brought together the extended port community, the Chairman of the Foundation Board reiterated the purpose of his initiative, after commending the strong mobilization of the beneficiaries. “This campaign is fully aligned with the social policy of the Autonomous Port of Dakar and reflects our gratitude to those who have contributed, through their work and commitment, to building this shared heritage that is the Port of Dakar. It stems from a consultation process conducted since the creation of the PAD Foundation in 2018, and has enabled us to mobilize health specialists, port families, and stakeholders in the port ecosystem around a major issue: the well-being of senior citizens,” emphasized Mr. Waly Diouf Bodiang.

He adds: "These consultations also aim to offer our seniors preventive care, including screening and medical follow-up in order to sustainably improve their quality of life."

In addition to these specialist consultations, the Director General of the PAD and Chairman of the Foundation Board announced that each retiree will receive medical glasses and a set of essential medicines in order to strengthen the impact of his initiative.

According to Waly Diouf Bodiang, this campaign of free consultations and care is a natural extension of the missions of the PAD Foundation and is in perfect alignment with its health program which, for him, has made it possible to carry out numerous projects with a strong social impact throughout the national territory, including: the awarding of specialty scholarships for the training of about ten Senegalese doctors, thus contributing to the strengthening of national medical capacities; the upgrading of several medical facilities and the improvement of health infrastructure in various localities of the country; the provision of medicines and state-of-the-art medical equipment to hospitals to improve the quality of care; the organization of medical campaigns in rural and disadvantaged areas; and finally, the care and evacuation of hundreds of patients.

According to him, "these achievements reflect the civic commitment of the Autonomous Port of Dakar, which contributes alongside public authorities to universal access to quality care, in line with the national agenda for the transformation of the country ''Senegal 2050''".

The strong announcements made by the Chairman of the Foundation Board to retirees

The Chairman of the Foundation Board also commended the dynamism of the Association of Retirees of the Port of Dakar (ARPAD), led by Mr. Loumboul Sy. He stated that this strong mobilization reaffirms their connection to the port. In this regard, Waly Diouf Bodiang said he had instructed the PAD Foundation to strengthen its support for them. This will include accompanying them on pilgrimages to holy sites of Islam and Christianity; supporting religious celebrations; and now, regularly organizing medical campaigns specifically for retirees.

Regarding the association's health insurance project, the Director General of PAD reassured the president and his colleagues that his competent departments are actively working on it in order to find a sustainable solution for the preservation of their health.

"This campaign is an unprecedented and exemplary initiative."

The president of the Dakar Port Retirees Association, Mr. Loumboul Sy, stated that this free medical consultation campaign is "an unprecedented and exemplary initiative." "The ceremony that brings us together this morning is a moment of joy, emotion, and pride. This free consultation campaign, entirely dedicated to the health of the elderly, is an unprecedented and exemplary initiative. It reflects, Mr. Chairman of the Foundation Board, your strong sense of social innovation and your constant commitment to providing concrete solutions to the needs of retired workers," Mr. Loumboul Sy emphasized. He then expressed his profound gratitude for the continuation of the benefits acquired over the years.

According to him, these gestures, beyond their material value, demonstrate the recognition and respect due to those who have served the institution with honor.

“Following the creation of the national company of the Autonomous Port of Dakar, it is worth emphasizing that this is the first medical campaign dedicated to retirees, initiated under the leadership of a current Director General. The inauguration of this medical campaign will remain for our association a significant milestone of your term and a symbol of recognition towards those who have contributed to writing the history of the Autonomous Port of Dakar,” Mr. Sy emphasized from the outset.

"A return on investment"

Dr. Ciré Diop, speaking on behalf of the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, congratulated and thanked the foundation for its initiative, which she described as a worthwhile investment. She also thanked Mr. Waly Diouf Bodiang for his commitment to improving the health of the population, and especially the retirees of the Port of Dakar.

In closing, Dr. Ciré Diop reiterated Minister Ibrahima Sy's commitment to collaborate and contribute more to better health for the Senegalese population.

"The PAD must pay tribute to these valiant people for two reasons."

According to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Autonomous Port of Dakar, the PAD must pay tribute to these valiant individuals for two reasons. First, they have served the port for generations and have built it. Second, the management is implementing a 2050 vision that represents a paradigm shift. "We have moved from solidarity to inter-agency solidarity. With this inter-agency solidarity, the port is aligned," emphasized Mr. Mouhamadou Ngouda Mboup.
