RSE : Air Sénégal déploie « Les ailes de l’espoir » pour les pouponnières de la Casamance
In a region often overlooked by major national initiatives, Air Senegal has chosen to make a significant gesture by supporting the orphanages of Oussouye and Cabrousse. More than just a donation, it's a lasting alliance that has been forged between the national airline and these vulnerable children, the bearers of Senegal's future. For Aminatou Bao, in charge of social action and internal communication, the gesture is far from insignificant: "In Dakar, all companies make donations. We decided to choose the remote orphanages, those that don't have the opportunity to receive support. And when we came, we understood that our choice was wise." She notes that more than three million CFA francs have been raised for food, clothing, diapers, and childcare equipment, not counting the collections organized in France by the Maïmouna Association.
Sokhna Loum, in charge of revenue control at Air Sénégal SA, emphasized the social dimension of the initiative, noting that Air Sénégal is not only a national airline but also a committed player in human and social development. According to her, every child deserves protection, dignity, and hope. She also commended the staff's dedication and generosity, who spared no effort to ensure the success of this initiative. Among the beneficiaries, the emotion was palpable. Sister Marie-Thérèse Kouma, head of the Sainte-Thérèse de l'Enfant-Jésus orphanage, expressed her profound gratitude: "You care about their well-being, their education, and their health. Only God can repay you with blessings. Thank you for your sense of sacrifice, your solidarity, and your boundless support." Sister Kouma points out that these facilities take in abandoned or orphaned children, sometimes from their first day of life, coming from all over Senegal and even from neighboring countries.
The symbolic significance of the act was also highlighted by Philippe Dieng Diédhiou, spokesperson for the King of Oussouye: “What you are doing is what our community has been trying to do for centuries: protect the most vulnerable, guarantee peace and solidarity. Air Senegal is an asset of the nation, and your act towards the children is an investment in angels.” Mr. Diédhiou recalled that in local tradition, the monarchy has always had the mission of supporting the most vulnerable, notably by providing rice to those in need. By naming its internal committee “Wings of Hope,” Air Senegal is ensuring continuity in its actions. For Aminatou Bao, this represents a firm commitment and a pact sealed between the airline and the orphanages for the well-being of these children. In Casamance, where every gesture of solidarity resonates as a victory against oblivion, Air Senegal has demonstrated that its mission goes beyond air transport to establish itself as a major player in the social and human development of the country.
