Ses 100 ans : Le message poignant et important de Me Abdoulaye Wade aux sénégalais
During the festivities marking the centenary of Abdoulaye Wade's birth, many Senegalese and non-Senegalese warmly expressed their sympathy and affection for him. Today, in return, the "Pope of Sopi" (a nickname for President Abdoulaye Wade) wished to thank them.
"Senegalese men and women, I would like to speak to you today because among those who send me letters for my 100th birthday, many are my children or my grandchildren," he said in a message broadcast on RTS.
The former President of Senegal emphasized that "this day is exceptional" for him. "Because I heard messages from people who had left me and who came of their own accord to bear witness to what I did. Each one highlighted the aspect that struck them the most," he stated.
He added: “I don’t really like to talk about what I did during my twelve years at the head of Senegal. I prefer to let others say it. I didn’t think I would reach one hundred years. But I’m still here. I leave that to the Senegalese, to non-Senegalese and to all Africans whom I include in the same thanks, because they are all my children and grandchildren.”
Mr. Abdoulaye Wade made a point of thanking President Diomaye who, he said, came himself, with his government and his friends.
Before concluding his message, he wanted to reiterate a message that had become a refrain during his tenure: "It is a message of work. 'Work, work some more, always work.' It has become a message for all of Africa, for all African youth. The essence of life is work," he concluded.
