Thiès : les habitants de Nguinth alertent sur les dangers du canal de drainage inachevé
Residents of the Nguinth neighborhood in Thiès are raising the alarm about the alarming state of the stormwater drainage canal, whose repair work has been stalled for several months. Faced with what they describe as a threat to their safety and health, they are calling on the authorities to find an urgent solution before the rainy season arrives.
According to local residents, the project began under former President Macky Sall in 2024, but the construction site is now abandoned. This prolonged interruption is causing numerous difficulties for the neighborhood's inhabitants, who live daily with the consequences of this unfinished infrastructure.
Residents are particularly concerned about the health risks associated with stagnant sewage in the canal. They are especially worried about the children who frequent the area, some playing in the unsanitary water while others fish for species deemed unfit for consumption.
Beyond public health concerns, residents are also raising safety issues and fear that the situation will worsen with the first rains. They are particularly worried about the return of flooding, which has already forced some residents to abandon their homes.
With the approach of the rainy season, the inhabitants of Nguinth are making an urgent appeal to the competent authorities for the resumption and completion of the canal works, believing that a rapid intervention is essential to protect the people and their property.
