The Magal, dedicated to Serigne Abdou Lahad Mbacké, the third Caliph General of the Mourides, will be celebrated on April 11 or 12, 2026, in Touba. As part of the preparations, the Governor of Diourbel, Ibrahima Fall, chaired a Regional Development Committee (CRD) meeting on Tuesday focused on organizing this major religious event.

The meeting brought together the prefect of Mbacké, Khadim Hann, the sub-prefect of Ndam, Abdoulaye Karma, the mayor of Touba, Abdou Lahat Ka, the chief commissioner Diégane Séne, head of the special police station of Touba, the squadron leader Fallou Fallou, commander of the gendarmerie company of Touba, as well as several heads of service and members of the organizing committee, including Serigne Dane Mbacké Abdou Lahad, Serigne Amsatou Mbacké Abdou Lahad and Elhadji Ndiaye dit Programme.

A tribute to a caliph who was a builder and educator

Speaking at the close of the meeting, Governor Ibrahima Fall paid tribute to the memory of Serigne Abdou Lahad Mbacké, praising his role as a builder and educator. He recalled his numerous achievements for the benefit of the holy city of Touba, notably the expansion of the Grand Mosque, the construction of Daray Kamil, and the electrification of the religious center. He also emphasized Serigne Mbacké's role as a spiritual guide through the code of conduct he established for the faithful.

A comprehensive system has been mobilized.

From a security standpoint, the governor assured that all measures will be taken to ensure optimal coverage of the event.

Special attention will be given to the conference of the grandsons, scheduled forty-eight hours before the Magal.

Regarding water and sanitation, twelve tanker trucks and fifteen tarpaulins will be deployed, while one hundred and fifty trips have been requested from ONAS (National Sanitation Office), in addition to one hundred trips from the municipality of Touba-Mosquée. In terms of energy, Senelec (the national electricity company) will be responsible for maintaining power outages in the city for forty-eight hours before and after the event, with a generator as a backup.

Public lighting will be enhanced by the extension of fifteen new poles.

Trade services will ensure the markets are properly supplied and that regulated prices are respected. Veterinary services will inspect animal products and combat illegal slaughter.

In closing, the governor asked for prayers for peace and prosperity in Senegal, as well as for the success of the mission of the President of the Republic Bassirou Diomaye Faye, the Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, the Minister of the Interior Mouhamadou Bamba Cissé and the entire government.
