Etats-Unis : « L’Amérique est de RETOUR ! »… La Maison-Blanche ouvre son compte TikTok
The social network is, however, threatened with a ban in the United States if its Chinese owner does not relinquish control.
While the social network is on hold in the United States, the White House has decided to launch on TikTok. For its first publication on Tuesday, the official account of the heart of American power shared a 27-second video showing clips of the American president with the caption: "America is BACK! What's new TikTok?"
"Welcome to America's Golden Age," the account also reads.
More than 110 million for Trump's account
Three hours after the video was posted, the official White House account had more than 25,000 followers. Donald Trump's personal account has more than 110 million followers, even though the president hasn't posted on TikTok since November 5, 2024, the day of the US presidential election.
TikTok is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. Under a law passed by Congress in 2024, the social network remains subject to a ban in the United States unless it relinquishes control. Both Republican and Democratic lawmakers expressed concern at the time about China using data or attempting to influence American opinion.
However, Donald Trump has repeatedly pushed back the ultimatum to sell the social network, which is very popular in the United States, with the president having admitted to having "a soft spot for TikTok." The deadline for its sale is currently set for September 17.
