Médina Baye : vol de 7 millions de FCFA dans le véhicule d’I. Niass, trois suspects arrêtés
Kaolack Police had a particularly busy day on Thursday, September 11, 2025, with the arrest of three suspects for a theft of 7 million FCFA, as well as a large nighttime security operation leading to 18 arrests.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. in the pouring rain in Medina Baye, as the town was packed with worshippers who had come to celebrate Gamou (Gamouwatt).
Informed, the police officers of the Research Brigade of the Ndorong district police station immediately went to the scene.
According to the complainant, I.Niass, the thieves managed to break into his vehicle parked in front of his house before stealing an envelope containing 7 million FCFA.
Thanks to the mobilization of neighbors and passers-by, the thief and his two accomplices were apprehended and then handed over to investigators.
They are Mr. Diallo, 22 years old, Jakarta motorcycle driver, residing in Thioffack, Mr. Bousso, 24 years old, sheet metal worker, residing in Léona and Mr. Thiam, 27 years old, motorcycle driver, residing in Thioffack.
The three suspects were taken into custody. The prosecutor has been informed and the investigation is ongoing, according to Seneweb sources.
A large-scale security operation
In the aftermath, a security mission was carried out from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. by Kaolack police. Six checkpoints were set up throughout the city.
This preventive operation aimed to strengthen security during religious celebrations, a period conducive to crime due to crowds and large gatherings.
18 individuals arrested during the night
The report shows 18 arrests for various reasons, including 3 for identity verification, 2 for assault and battery, 1 for possession and use of Indian hemp (a joint seized), 3 for criminal association, 3 for theft and 6 for investigation purposes.
