Présidentielle au Bénin : La réaction d’Emmanuel Macron après l’élection de Romuald Wadagni
Following the announcement of the final results of the presidential election held on April 12, French President Emmanuel Macron congratulated President-elect Romuald Wadagni. He wished him every success in "carrying out his high mission in service of peace, stability, and development" in Benin.
Strengthening "the relationship of friendship and trust that unites France and Benin"
The tenant of the Elysée Palace also reaffirmed his willingness to strengthen cooperation between France and Benin.
"I wish to assure you of my full and complete availability to continue, alongside you, strengthening the relationship of friendship and trust that unites France and Benin. This long-standing and deep relationship finds its strength in the human, cultural and historical ties that bring our two peoples closer together and which I am particularly committed to nurturing and deepening with you," the French president stated in his letter dated Friday, April 24, 2026.
Developing "ambitious economic partnerships together, based on sustainable and solidarity-based investments"
He "expresses the hope that the two countries will continue to enrich their cooperation, particularly in the areas of heritage, museums, education and training, and that they will develop together ambitious economic partnerships based on sustainable, solidarity-based investments that create opportunities."
The French leader did not downplay the jihadist threat in the sub-region. He expressed France's "unwavering solidarity" with Mr. Wadagni and the people of Benin.
