The medical verdict has not yet been announced, but the image of Ismaël Koné's twisted leg leaves little room for doubt, and the Canadian midfielder's bulging eyes suggest that he quickly realized the seriousness of the injury, following a tackle by Assim Madibo, who was sent off in the aftermath (Qatar's second red card in the match).
Tribute from Saliba
His replacement, Nathan Saliba, scored a beautiful free-kick a few minutes after coming on. He celebrated by holding up a jersey bearing Koné's name and number.

After his time in Marseille, 24-year-old Ismaël Koné had a great season at Sassuolo and delivered a top-level performance against Qatar. Seated on a stretcher, Koné took the time to acknowledge the crowd as he was being taken to the hospital.
Canada finally crushed Qatar, who were reduced to 9 men. Final score 6-0, with a hat trick from Jonathan David.
