« J’ai déjà vu des arnaques mais celle-là c’est… » : Gregory Schneider réagit au retrait du titre de champion d’Afrique au Sénégal
This is a devastating blow for Senegal. The appeals committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has decided to strip the country of its African Cup of Nations title, won last January. The independent body ruled that the Senegalese team's withdrawal from the pitch during the 2025 AFCON final constituted a violation of the competition's regulations. This effectively results in the match being forfeited (3-0).
L'Equipe TV pundit Gregory Schneider couldn't contain his anger upon hearing the news. In a post on X, the Libération newspaper employee cried foul, accusing the company of a scam.
"Ridicule doesn't kill—well, actually it does, in this case it's killing football…"
“Congratulations again to Morocco for their victory at the AFCON! Thank goodness ridicule isn't fatal – well, actually, it is, in this case, it's killing football. I've seen some scams before, but this one is the Sistine Chapel of manipulation,” commented the journalist. He nevertheless exonerated the Moroccan players, who, according to him, “don't deserve to be considered imposters or thieves.” “None of them deserves to bear the shame that will inevitably befall them,” Mr. Schneider asserted.
It should be remembered that the Libération journalist had severely criticized the refereeing during the 2025 AFCON. He accused the men in black of favouring Morocco and called for the cup to simply be given to the Atlas Lions.
