In a statement released on Sunday, January 25, 2026, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) officially distanced itself from former international El Hadji Ousseynou Diouf. The reason: the Lions legend's recent statements regarding the management of land grants promised by the state, as well as his remarks on the governance of world football.
The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) did not mince words in expressing its disagreement. The statement indicates that the FSF "firmly condemns both the substance and the form of the claims made regarding the allocation of land" by the former striker. While Diouf had challenged the government on these land promises, the Federation was keen to "completely distance itself" from these remarks.
To reassure the public, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) reiterates that the Senegalese authorities have always demonstrated "constant concern" and "unwavering institutional and financial support" for national football. It further specifies that the issue of stadiums is already being "diligently addressed by the highest authorities of the Republic."
"His opinions are his own and do not necessarily reflect his own views."
While acknowledging El Hadji Diouf's status as a "legend of Senegalese football," the Federation sought to clarify its current role. The organization specified that his statements, expressed in a personal capacity, "in no way reflect the official position of the FSF, nor that of the Executive Committee."
The Federation also rejects the method used by the former player, stating that it cannot endorse the use of the press to make private demands, preferring instead "republican dialogue and appropriate administrative channels".
The disapproval extends beyond national borders. Regarding Diouf's statements about the governing bodies of world sport, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) is making its "clear distinction." The federation reiterates that its international policy is defined by its Executive Committee and must be expressed in "strict compliance with diplomatic rules and good neighborly relations with sister organizations."
In conclusion, the FSF General Secretariat calls on all stakeholders to demonstrate "restraint, responsibility, and respect" in their public statements. This clarification is necessary, according to the organization, to preserve "the image of our country and the serenity essential for the smooth functioning of our sport."
