Tennis: la N.1 mondiale Aryna Sabalenka gagne un deuxième titre d'affilée à l'US Open
World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka won a second straight US Open on Saturday, her first major title in 2025, by defeating American Amanda Anisimova (9th) 6-3, 7-6 (7/3).
Now a four-time Grand Slam tournament winner, the 27-year-old Belarusian lost this season in the final of the Australian Open in January and then at Roland Garros in June.
Anisimova, for her part, was beaten for the second time in a row in a Grand Slam final after her terrible 6-0, 6-0 defeat against Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon.
The women's tour boss is the first player since Serena Williams to retain her title two years in a row at the US Open.
The American, with 23 Grand Slam titles, even won three years in a row in New York, between 2012 and 2014.
In addition to her two titles in New York, Sabalenka won the Australian Open in 2023 and 2024.
Before claiming her 100th Grand Slam victory on Saturday, the Belarusian trailed Anisimova six wins to three in their duels.
The New Jersey native notably beat her in the semi-finals of Wimbledon.
The 24-year-old American, despite an abundance of unforced errors, defended herself better on Saturday than in her first Grand Slam final in July on the London grass.
But that wasn't enough against the power and experience of Sabalenka, who secured victory in the first set by breaking at 4-3 after a very tight start to the match in which both players chained breaks and unbreaks.
In the second set, Anisimova twice came back from a break down to push her opponent into a tiebreak, which the Belarusian won without a hitch.
Anisimova will climb in the next WTA rankings to world number 4, the highest rank of her career.
Sabalenka was assured of remaining world No. 1 since qualifying for the quarter-finals in New York.
