AFP post-Moustapha Niasse : Mbaye Dione annonce une rupture radicale
During a visit to Nioro, the new Secretary General of the Alliance of Progressive Forces (AFP), Mbaye Dione, made a major announcement: the "Progressives" will no longer be in tow with any other political formation.
Marking a clear break with the Benno Bokk Yaakaar (BBY, the former presidential coalition) era, Mbaye Dione, whose remarks were reported by Les Échos, was categorical: "It's over, we will no longer support anyone for the rest of our lives," he declared to his supporters. The AFP therefore intends to run under its own banner in the 2029 presidential election.
While Moustapha Niasse's successor doesn't rule out forming coalitions in the future, he warns that his party will now be the driving force behind them. To achieve this, the head of the AFP is counting on a local reconquest. His ambition is to reactivate the progressive "war machine" to sweep all the municipalities in the next local elections, transforming this territorial network into a springboard to power.
