In an interview with Le Soleil, Mamadou Diop Decroix, Secretary General of And-Jëf/PADS, gave a largely laudatory analysis of the Pastef party, led by Ousmane Sonko.
He describes Pastef as much more than a simple political party, presenting it as a true instrument of systemic transformation, endowed with a clear vision and a rigorous organization. The former ally of Abdoulaye Wade emphasizes the quality of its activists, whom he considers well-trained, highly committed, and detached from material concerns, but above all, deeply connected to the realities and daily suffering of the Senegalese people. This close connection, according to him, explains the broad popular support the party enjoys.
When questioned about a possible merger between And-Jëf/PADS and Pastef, the left-wing leader adopted a cautious but open stance. He acknowledged the existence of strong ideological convergences between the two parties, particularly on issues of national sovereignty, the emancipation of the people, and African unity. He also recalled their long-standing collaboration within the opposition, through figures such as Mànkoo Wattu Senegaal and the National Resistance Front.
However, the source speaking to the national daily newspaper clarified that And-Jëf/PADS is waiting to learn more about the details of the massification process announced by Pastef before making a final decision. He nevertheless assured that the question of a merger will be discussed when the time comes, with the aim of building a broad political front committed to the transformation of the country.
