Cameroun-Issa Tchiroma Bakary : «Si le Conseil constitutionnel proclame des résultats falsifiés…»

After Cameroon's National Autonomous Electoral Commission declared Paul Biya the winner of the presidential elections, opposition leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary called on the Cameroonian people to resist peacefully.

In a message addressed to the Cameroonian nation, the opponent said he was determined to fight against "a regime deaf to its suffering and difficulties."

"If the Constitutional Council proclaims falsified and truncated results, it will be complicit in a breach of trust," he declared, before adding: "the vast majority of the Cameroonian people will never accept that the Council validates the historic scale of ballot stuffing and falsification. We are determined to fight against a regime deaf to its suffering and difficulties, faced with the turbulence of an uncertain future."

"Cameroon is a great nation. We will unite as one nation to protect and promote our values hand in hand, in friendship and solidarity to defeat this 'predatory oligarchy' that confiscates our freedoms and reduces us to poverty and despair," he said.

Issa Tchiroma denounced the current regime's attempt to divide and fragment the Union for Change. "Not only will this attempt be futile, but it also offers us the opportunity to further close ranks and pursue our goals with determination," he said.

The former parliamentarian said he reiterated his unwavering commitment to supporting the people in the construction and success of this fight, which will only end with the restoration of victory.

He deplored the assassination of Ms. Zouhaira, a teacher who fell in the fight for freedom and dignity. This assassination, he said, will be an additional motivation to redouble our efforts until we achieve our goals.

To the defense and security forces, Tchiroma reminded that the fight is collective.

"Never agree to turn your weapons against your own people, because the suffering endured by these people is also yours. Never obey an order aimed at violence or the suppression of the life of one of your own," he emphasizes.

The opposition leader also called on Cameroonians to unite in peace and love of the country to claim victory. He declared: "We will not accept that our victory be stolen from us. If they choose to threaten the serenity and peace of our country instead of admitting defeat, we will respond with the peaceful determination of the people."

"The right to demonstrate is a universal right; let us exercise it with discipline and dignity," he concluded his message.
