Guinée : Le journaliste Lamine Guirassy officiellement blanchi, mais ses médias restent muselés
A new chapter begins for Lamine Guirassy. After several months of suspension, the journalist and head of Hadafo Médias has officially regained the right to practice his profession in Guinea, following a decision by the High Authority for Communication (HAC). This decision has been met with relief in Guinean media circles, even though many believe the matter is far from being fully resolved.
A major figure in Guinean media
For over two decades, Lamine Guirassy has established himself as one of the most influential voices in the Guinean audiovisual landscape. With Espace FM and then Espace TV Guinée, he helped to create a private press capable of competing with public media in a context often marked by political tensions and debates surrounding freedom of expression.
The Hadafo group has gradually become a key player in Guinean news, with a large readership both in the capital, Conakry, and in several regions of the country. The suspension of Lamine Guirassy was therefore seen as a symbol of the difficulties currently facing the Guinean private press.
A welcome decision, but with a sense of incompleteness.
While Lamine Guirassy's return to the profession is a significant step forward, his media outlets remain at a standstill. The programs of Espace FM and Espace TV Guinée are still not broadcasting, leaving many listeners and viewers waiting. This situation creates a paradox: the journalist has regained his rights, but his main means of broadcasting remain silent.
In newsrooms and among the public, many are now hoping for the imminent reopening of the Hadafo group's media outlets. Because beyond the personal case of Lamine Guirassy, a whole segment of the Guinean media landscape is currently operating at a reduced capacity.
A signal observed in the sub-region
The HAC's decision is also being closely followed in several West African countries, where issues related to media regulation and press freedom remain sensitive.
For some observers, this measure could reflect a desire for appeasement between the transitional authorities and certain players in the private press. Others prefer to wait for more concrete actions, particularly the actual return of suspended media outlets to the airwaves. In the meantime, Lamine Guirassy's return already marks a symbolic turning point. The head of Hadafo has regained his professional freedom, even if the fight for the full resumption of his media outlets seems far from over.
