La Guinée équatoriale change de capitale
It's official! Malabo is no longer the capital of Equatorial Guinea. According to a presidential decree signed on Saturday, January 3, the new capital of the country is Ciudad de la Paz. This city is located in the province of Djibloho, in the east of the country.
"Because of its strategic location, its potential for urban expansion, its capacity to accommodate modern administrative infrastructure and its connectivity with other regions, it presents itself as an ideal option to house the new capital," President Teodoro Obiang Nguema stated in his decree.
Malabo faces "accelerated urban growth"
It must be said that the city of Ciudad de la Paz boasts modern infrastructure and institutional buildings. In a year, it will also house the presidential offices, state institutions, government agencies, and state-owned enterprises.
It is clear that the Equatorial Guinean authorities want to move the center of power away from cities like Malabo and Bata, which are facing "accelerated urban growth" that is generating "considerable challenges in urban planning, increased pressure on basic services, increased regional inequalities and overloading of transport and communication networks".

Il faut sortir de ses histoires stupides où chacun veut que sa ville d’origine soit la capitale : c’est très primaire !
