Les Etats-Unis de Trump se rapprochent du Burkina et des autres pays de l’AES
After Niger and Mali, Nick Checker, the senior official at the U.S. State Department's Bureau of African Affairs, traveled to Burkina Faso yesterday, Wednesday, March 11. There, he met with Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré.
"We must learn from the past; it's about moving forward, about restoring trust."
The US government envoy presented the Burkinabe foreign minister with the new vision of the United States regarding cooperation with the "Land of Upright Men".
According to Mr. Checker, the American administration wants a partnership of equals with Burkina Faso, far removed from the misunderstandings that have plagued relations between the two countries in the past.
"We discussed our willingness to work together on issues of common interest. We must learn from the past; it is about moving forward, rebuilding trust and cooperating on issues that concern us all," the American official said after the hearing.
One of the issues of common interest to both countries is the fight against terrorism. The two officials discussed this and raised the prospect of lifting the suspension on military equipment exports to Burkina Faso.
Economic and trade issues were also on the agenda for the discussions.
The ESA countries are not waiting to be helped.
The Burkinabe Minister of Foreign Affairs welcomed the new vision of the United States regarding cooperation with Ouagadougou and the other capitals of the ESA.
For him, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger are fully committed to this win-win partnership and are not waiting to be helped. He hopes that this new diplomatic momentum will lead to concrete actions.
