[Billet d'humour] Entre gouvernement et Mondial, la sélection des titulaires provisoires !
There are times when a country awaits a speech. Others when it awaits a decision. Senegal, however, is waiting for two lists. And judging by the general impatience, it seems the nation's future rests on two sheets of A4 paper.
The first is the government. Ten days after the dissolution triggered by Ousmane Sonko's removal from the Prime Minister's office, Al Aminou Lo is assembling his team. The new head of government is looking for men and women capable of leading Senegal 2050 while remaining true to the spirit of the famous Pastef "Project." A political equation more complex than a Wolof math problem. Meanwhile, the contenders are glued to their phones like candidates awaiting exam results.
The second list is that of the 26 Lions who will go to the World Cup. And here too, the suspense is palpable. Bara Ndiaye, who was practically taking an entrance exam during his first appearance, made a strong impression. The young man didn't come to visit the squad. He came to show that he deserves to stay. The first headache for Pape Thiaw.
The second problem lies in defense. As the clash against France approaches, Senegal's back line sometimes resembles a construction site, its completion still uncertain. Koulibaly is returning from injury, some key players are struggling to regain their best form, and Moustapha Mbow is causing concern even among the fans. At this rate, the French attackers risk getting to know the Senegalese defenders before kickoff.
Ultimately, these two lists tell the same story: that of a Senegal searching for its leaders. Some to defend a political project, others to defend the goals.
In both cases, nobody wants to end up on the bench.
