Viol et pédophilie : 10 ans de prison pour "Pa Sow", le vieux qui achetait le silence d'une enfant pour 500 francs
In her pleated red dress, a black scarf tied around her head, the still-youthful face of young K. Faye eloquently testified to her fragility before the criminal chamber of the High Court. In the courtroom, the awkwardness was palpable given the vast age gap between the two protagonists in this painful case.
In court, 60-year-old Alassane Omar Sow was found guilty of raping a minor under the age of 13, abduction, and pedophilia. The events date back to 2021 in the Médine neighborhood, where the accused abused the girl, then only 12 years old. A regular at the restaurant run by the victim's mother, the convicted man took advantage of the times when the child delivered her meals to indulge his base instincts. On two occasions, he had sexual relations with her, giving her the paltry sum of 500 CFA francs after each act to buy her silence.
When questioned about the heinous nature of his actions, Alassane Omar Sow attempted to justify himself with a laconic "Dama dioum" (I made a mistake), before provoking outrage in the court by daring to claim that the victim was "consenting." This line of defense infuriated the judge and the prosecutor, who reiterated that there could be no consent for a child of that age.
Clearly irritated, the presiding judge of the criminal court did not mince words with the defendant during his sermon. "She could be your granddaughter! What you wouldn't want done to your own child, don't do to someone else's," the magistrate insisted. Addressing the courtroom and the victim's mother, the judge also made a heartfelt plea for child protection: "Stop sending your children on errands for older people. A person can appear responsible and upright, but reveal themselves to be vile in their actions."
The tragedy is all the more devastating as a child, now four years old, was born as a result of these rapes. Despite the defense's plea, presented by attorney Mouhamed Fadel Fall, the court partially followed the prosecutor's recommendation of a 20-year prison sentence. Alassane Omar Sow was ultimately sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment and ordered to pay 2 million CFA francs in damages to his victim.
