Les rumeurs sur la santé de Trump persistent malgré les démentis

Manipulated images, photos taken out of context... Rumors that Donald Trump is seriously ill, or even dead, have been circulating online in recent days, despite a public denial on Tuesday from the American president himself.

At a White House press conference, Donald Trump, 79, dismissed as "fake news" rumors about his health that emerged after an unusual week of media starvation.

Since Friday, approximately 104,000 mentions of the hashtag "Trump dead" have been recorded on the X platform, generating a total of 35.3 million views, according to an analysis conducted by NewsGuard, an organization that fights disinformation.

Some internet users posted maps purporting to show road closures near Walter Reed National Military Medical Center near Washington, D.C., as evidence that Trump was being treated for a serious illness at the facility.

But there have been no credible reports of road closures around the medical center.

Others shared an image of an ambulance parked outside the White House, claiming it was taken last month and cited as evidence.

In reality, it was an old photo posted by a journalist on X in April 2023, when Trump's predecessor, Joe Biden, was still in office, according to NewsGuard.

Some, claiming Trump was dead, shared an image of the White House flag at half-staff, a traditional gesture used to honor the death of a high-profile official. In fact, Trump had ordered flags at the White House, military posts, and naval stations across the country to be flown at half-staff last week to honor the victims of a school shooting in Minneapolis.

Others also posted a zoomed-in image of Trump's face, claiming it showed a deep line above his eye suggesting a recent stroke. But NewsGuard found the original image was blurry and showed no sign of a line above Trump's eye. The image had been digitally enhanced with an artificial intelligence tool.

The misinformation—which appears to have originated from anti-Trump accounts on X, Bluesky, and Instagram—persisted even after Trump declared on his Truth Social network over the weekend, "I'VE NEVER FELT SO GOOD IN MY LIFE." The misinformation continued to spread after Trump's Tuesday press conference, where he publicly dismissed rumors about his health.

The health of US presidents has always been closely monitored. During the last presidential campaign, Donald Trump, the oldest man ever elected president of the United States, alleged that Democrats had covered up the mental and physical decline of Biden, who was 82 when he left office in January.
