The United States is negotiating "right now" with Iran, Donald Trump said Tuesday, adding that Tehran had given Washington a "very big gift" related to hydrocarbons and navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

"What I said yesterday was exactly right. We are in negotiations right now," the US president told reporters at the White House, specifying that his envoy Steve Witkoff, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were participating in these discussions.

When asked by the press about the possibility of an agreement to end the war, Donald Trump replied: "I think we're going to end it. I can't tell you for sure." But according to him, the Iranian leaders "want to make a deal." "They did something yesterday that was actually great. They gave us a gift, and the gift arrived today. And it was a very big gift, the equivalent of a lot of money," he added.

The day before, he had announced a "five-day" postponement of the strikes he threatened to launch as early as Monday evening on power plants and other infrastructure in Iran if the Islamic Republic did not unblock this strategic route for the global supply of hydrocarbons.
