Affaire des 8 milliards F CFA : la demande urgente de Lat Diop
Lat Diop, who has been in custody for nearly a year for embezzlement of public funds, money laundering, and extortion of 8 billion CFA francs, continues to protest his innocence. The former Minister of Sports and Director General of Lonase will soon take further action in this regard.
Les Echos, which provided the information, specifies that his lawyers will in fact "submit to the examining magistrate of the Financial Judicial Pool [PJF] a request for a confrontation with Mouhamed Dieng."
The latter, head of 1XBET Senegal, a partner of Lonase, is Lat Diop's main accuser. During the preliminary investigation, a confrontation between the two men was scheduled. It did not take place; Dieng was absent from the national territory at the time.
Upon his return to Senegal, he was questioned by the investigating magistrate. He reiterated his accusations without being confronted by the accused.
For the former head of Lonase, reports Les Echos, a confrontation with Mouhamed Dieng is "fundamental to enlighten the judge. Hence the proposed request."
Lat Diop is considering referring the matter to the investigating judge, as he is the subject of a supplementary indictment from the financial prosecutor's office requesting his indictment, this time for criminal conspiracy and embezzlement of public funds amounting to 1 billion 433 million 490 thousand 255 CFA francs.
"This amount corresponds to funds that were disbursed without supporting documents while Lat Diop was director general of Lonase, according to the expert report [examining the accounts of the public company]," specifies Libération.
In execution of this supplementary indictment from the prosecution, the president of the College of Investigating Judges of the PJF activated the DIC, which carried out new arrests.
