Samba Sy (PIT) : « Le président Macky Sall, l’un des absents les plus présents dans notre pays »
The secretary general of the Independence and Labor Party (PIT) and coordinator of the Front for the Defense of Democracy and the Republic (FDR), Samba Sy, denounced the "hunt" of opposition figures, defending former President Macky Sall.
Invited this Sunday, October 12, 2025, to the program Le Point on RTS, the former Minister of Labor estimated that Macky Sall remains omnipresent in the public debate in Senegal: "President Macky Sall is one of the most present absentees in our country. When the data changed, he chose to leave Senegal so as not to hinder the new authorities."
Samba Sy indicated that the repeated attacks against the former head of state motivated his recent public outings: "The fact that every day, repeatedly, they attack him, they don't look at what he has done, they rather take it over. The fact that they are tracking him down by trying to attack his family, his loved ones, all those who approached him, I believe that somewhere, that could have revolted him."
Referring to the prosecutions for "high treason," the opposition leader denounced the "arrests and abuses" of the government against the former regime. "There are already many prosecutions in our country. Many arrests, many abuses, many attacks, many outrageous words," he declared. He was indignant: "Does this change the daily lives of Senegalese people? Does it give food to those who are hungry? Does it allow those who want to get treatment and do not have the means to do so, to get treatment? And does it solve the problem of the thousands of Senegalese people today who are in the waters, in Touba and in the valley?"
According to him, accountability is "completely understandable and acceptable," but "the settling of scores, and especially the personal settling of scores, is unacceptable in every respect." "Let justice be done, let everyone be held accountable, let responsibilities be clearly identified; we need this to evolve as a country," he added. But he continued: "To fabricate, to attack, to assault, to attack people simply because they have the misfortune to be family or to have belonged to this regime, is unacceptable in every respect."
Citing the example of former minister Mansour Faye, Samba Sy declared: "Do you think that holding someone in detention, because his name is Mansour Faye, putting him in prison for four months, on charges as venial as these, do you think that's fair?" "Let's be wary of people who seem a little dormant and who are attacked from all sides without us hearing anything. It's never been good anywhere. And it's starting to get too much," warned the former Minister of Labor.
The FDR coordinator concluded with an appeal to reason: "Let's examine things calmly and quietly and see everyone's trajectory, who has what and who owns what. Let's look at things in depth. But the witch hunt, the stalking, the very act of taking families hostage because we're targeting another target, I believe that, in a country called Senegal, in the 21st century, it's revolting and it can't lead to anything good," he warned.
