La une de “Yoor-Yoor Bi” détournée : Les mises en garde du Cored
The Council for the Observation of Ethical and Professional Standards in the Media (Cored) warned on Tuesday against the resurgence of information manipulation, following the hijacking of the front page of the newspaper "Yoor-Yoor Bi".
In a statement, the organization indicated that it had observed “a new case of fake cover (false front page)” concerning the May 12, 2026 edition of the daily newspaper, cloned and then modified to make it appear as if it were a supposed publication entitled “Njoolor-Bi”.
Cored considers this practice to be “a clear manipulation of information” and “a powerful vector of disinformation” likely to mislead the public while undermining the credibility of professional media.
The institution recalls that such practices had already been denounced in 2022 and 2023, in a pre-electoral context, when several newspapers, including "EnQuête", "L'Observateur", "Le Quotidien" and "Le Soleil", had their front pages hijacked.
“These fake front pages cannot, under any circumstances, claim to be a product of press freedom,” insists Cored, which believes they contribute to undermining citizens’ trust in the media and fueling rumors on social networks.
In its statement, the council also points out that the publication and distribution of press content are governed by the Press Code. It specifically cites Article 204, which provides for criminal and financial penalties for the distribution of non-compliant publications.
Cored finally called on media actors and internet users to be more vigilant in the face of the normalization of digital disinformation.
