Affaire Mame Mbaye Niang : La Coalition FAGARU réclame la démission du Premier ministre Ousmane Sonko
The FAGARU Coalition, the Sentinels of the Republic, has published a statement expressing its deep concern over the recent actions of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko in the legal case opposing him to the former Minister of the Republic, Mame Mbaye Niang.
In this statement sent to Seneweb by its coordinator Abdou Karim Fall, the FAGARU Coalition denounces the Prime Minister's approach of requesting, through his lawyers and his Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, the reopening of the defamation trial opposing him to Mame Mbaye Niang.
The coalition points out that this case has exhausted all legal avenues: conviction at first instance, increased sentences on appeal, ruling by the Court of Cassation and, recently, rejection of the appeal.
According to FAGARU, these successive decisions reflect the stability and authority of res judicata, a fundamental principle of the rule of law.
For the FAGARU Coalition, the Prime Minister's decision is likely to discredit the independence and honor of the judiciary, an essential pillar of Senegalese democracy.
The organization strongly opposes this approach, which it considers "inopportune, politically motivated and dangerous for the institutional cohesion" of the country.
Call for the resignation of Ousmane Sonko
The Coalition responsibly calls for strict respect for institutions, the separation of powers, and governmental discipline in accordance with the requirements of the Republic. It believes that Senegal needs stability, institutional clarity, and a united executive focused exclusively on the economic, social, and security emergencies that concern its citizens.
In its statement, FAGARU asserts that "for the FAGARU coalition, Ousmane Sonko must be consistent with himself by resigning from his position as Prime Minister to put the justice system at ease and avoid any precedent and any pressure related to this case."
Support for the President of the Republic
Despite this firm position, the FAGARU Coalition reaffirms its total and unwavering support for the President of the Republic and the success of his mandate, in respect of the laws, institutions and democratic principles.
This statement, signed by coordinator Abdou Karim Fall on behalf of FAGARU, the Sentinels of the Republic, comes amid tensions surrounding this legal case which has pitted the Prime Minister against former minister Mame Mbaye Niang for several years.

Ak Founou Toth?
