Invited to the "Tolluwaay" program on Seneweb, Alioune Tine analyzes current Senegalese politics. While he maintains that there isn't a rift between Ousmane Sonko and President Diomaye Faye, but rather a lack of understanding, the founder of the Africajom Center think tank believes the Pastef leader made a mistake by opting for the presidency of the National Assembly. "If I were close to him, I would never have advised him to take the helm of the assembly. It's a mistake. His ambition is to be President of the Republic. After leaving the Prime Minister's office, he should have stepped back a bit, managed his party, and (in 2029) the Senegalese people will elect him to lead the country," he says. For Alioune Tine, the El Malick Ndiaye factor is also a factor. "He was doing a very good job as Speaker of the National Assembly. Whether we like it or not, El Malick Ndiaye was doing his job well. He embodied the position and did what everyone expected of him," adds Alioune Tine. According to the civil society member, the Speakership of the National Assembly brings no added value to Ousmane Sonko. "The members of parliament are already loyal to him. He didn't even need to be Speaker for the parliamentarians to do what he expects of them. He could have run the National Assembly remotely, while allowing El Malick Ndiaye to continue the work he was doing," Alioune Tine maintains.
