Assemblée : L'APR crie à la « répression sauvage » et exige le retrait de la réforme constitutionnelle
The Alliance for the Republic (APR) strongly condemned on Monday the tensions and arrests that occurred near the National Assembly during the examination of the draft constitutional amendment. The main opposition party openly accused the authorities of preventing citizens from accessing Parliament and of orchestrating a "brutal and savage repression" against demonstrators and opposition members of parliament.
In its statement, the political party denounces a flagrant violation of the Constitution and the principle of citizen oversight of public action, asserting that these events reflect a worrying erosion of civil liberties in Senegal. The party specifically cites the case of the president of the Takku Wallu Sénégal parliamentary group, MP Abdou Mbow, whom it claims was "brutalized and humiliated" during the heated clashes that erupted in the National Assembly.
The opposition also criticizes the silence of the authorities and directly points to the responsibility of the power in place, specifically targeting Ousmane Sonko in what it calls the "muzzling of democracy".
Faced with this crisis, the APR demands the immediate and unconditional release of all officials and activists arrested today. The party also calls for continued popular mobilization against the proposed constitutional revision, demanding its complete withdrawal.
