Assemblée nationale : Entre insultes de "chiens" et favoritisme, l'opposition parlementaire charge Malick Ndiaye
The political climate in the National Assembly of Senegal is deteriorating. In a joint statement published on February 26, 2026, the Takku Wallu Sénégal parliamentary group and independent members of parliament strongly denounced the conduct of the question period with the government held on February 24. According to them, this plenary session was marked by a "series of blatant violations of the National Assembly's rules of procedure."
Invectives and insults in the chamber
The opposition is pointing the finger at the behavior of certain members of parliament from the majority, accusing them of having traded arguments for insults. The document specifically names MPs Ayib Daffé and Alioune Dieye. The former is accused of having "called opposition MPs dogs and puppies," while the latter allegedly attacked the family of one of his colleagues.
The opposition firmly reiterates Article 64 of the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly, which stipulates that the Assembly must be the venue for a "calm, courteous, and impersonal" debate. It condemns an attitude in which elected officials substitute themselves for the Government by answering questions on its behalf.
President Malick Ndiaye in the crosshairs
The most serious accusation is leveled at the President of the National Assembly, Malick Ndiaye. He is accused of behavior deemed "unacceptable" and of violating the code of conduct that he himself had approved.
The opposition denounces a breach of fairness in speaking time, asserting that the President chose to "grant the Prime Minister an additional 5 minutes" while denying members of parliament any opportunity to respond. According to the signatories, this maneuver allowed the head of government to evade legitimate questions and "indulge in his favorite pastime: hurling insults at the opposition."
Faced with what it considers a distortion of democratic principles, the parliamentary opposition says it is ready to act. It condemns a presiding officer who has "shirked his responsibilities as guarantor of the dignity and honor of the Institution."
The statement, signed by Aissata Tall Sall and Adama Diallo, concludes on a firm note: the opposition "calls upon national and international opinion as a witness and will draw all the legal consequences from these serious breaches."
