Former parliamentarian Adji Mergane Kanouté spoke out about the "boycott" by some opposition MPs this Friday, November 28, 2025, in response to current affairs questions from the government in the National Assembly.
Invited to the "RFM matin" program, she stated that parliamentary dialogue should be prioritized. "In a difficult context where the economy is on its knees, the unemployment rate is climbing, floods and other situations are worrying Senegalese people, the presence of members of parliament who vote on laws and whose role is to represent the people was essential in the National Assembly," she declared.
According to Ms. Kanouté, even if the speaking time allotted to opposition MPs was deemed "insufficient," they had a duty to represent the people who elected them. "Even two speakers could have represented the people before this 'political platform' of the Prime Minister."
"Boycotts are a weapon of political struggle, but," she said, "in this difficult context, parliamentarians should confront the government to clarify some difficult aspects that Senegalese people are currently facing."
