Code électoral : la loi adoptée après sa seconde lecture à l’Assemblée nationale
The National Assembly adopted the law amending the Electoral Code on Saturday, following the second reading requested by Bassirou Diomaye Faye, in accordance with Article 73 of the Constitution. At the close of the plenary session, the vote results were as follows: 165 members were registered to vote, 132 participated, including 35 by proxy, and 128 voted in favor, including 35 by proxy. The text was thus adopted with 96.21% of the votes cast.
This second reading followed the controversy surrounding the existence of two versions of the text submitted after the initial vote on April 28, 2026. The head of state had then requested a new deliberation in order to "remove any ambiguity" regarding the version actually adopted by the members of parliament. The debates were particularly heated in the chamber, with several opposition members challenging the regularity of the procedure, while the parliamentary majority defended the conformity of the legislative process and the need to legally secure the text before its promulgation.
