University and rural crisis: Aissata Tall Sall challenges the government on scholarships and Sonacos

Crise universitaire et rurale : Aissata Tall Sall interpelle le gouvernement sur les bourses et la Sonacos

Aissata Tall Sall, President of the Takku Wallu parliamentary group, the main opposition force, addressed specific questions to the government concerning the social situation in Senegal, particularly in rural areas and universities, while also offering her best wishes for Ramadan and Lent to all religious communities.

The MP recalled a commitment made by the Prime Minister during a tour of the Kaolack region: Sonacos was to purchase 450,000 tons of agricultural products from farmers. However, according to her, as of January 30, only 126,000 tons had been collected, leaving 324,000 tons unsold to farmers, with the rainy season approaching in four months. "What are they going to do with these 324,000 tons?" she asked, emphasizing the need for concrete and rapid action to secure production and prevent a crisis in rural areas.

She also denounced the situation in Senegalese universities, where tensions have arisen from the delayed payment of student grants, as well as family security grants, which are still awaited by their recipients. The parliamentarian mentioned the tragic death of Abdoulaye Ba, a student killed during a police intervention on university grounds, and offered her condolences to his family. According to her, "the cure was worse than the disease," because initial preventative measures failed to avert the tragedy.

For parliamentary group leader Takku Wallu, it is essential to re-establish dialogue with the student community so that students can resume their studies. She emphasized the government's role in quickly resolving issues related to the payment of scholarships, whether student or family security grants.

Aïssata T’allais est tjrs égale à elle même. Elle est pertinente sans compter son niveau de langue tellement élevé qu’elle humilie ses adversaires sans le vouloir. Après elle tout le monde semble parler français ivoirien. J’ai eu pitié de Sonko.
