Crise universitaire : Un autre responsable de Pastef claque la porte (document)
Following Dr. Maissa Ndao, a leading figure in the youth wing of the PASTEF-Les Patriotes party in Kaolack, another official from the presidential party has resigned. This is Serigne Bara Sène, head of PASTEF in Thiaré Ndialgui (Ndiob district, Fatick department and region).
Serigne Bara Sène, secretary of the local branch of Ousmane Sonko's party in Thiaré Ndialgui, has resigned. In a letter reported by Thiaré Actu, he announced his departure from the party following its mismanagement of the university crisis.
"This carefully considered decision follows the clear and persistent neglect of the students' problem, despite numerous warnings and appeals. This regrettable situation has unfortunately led to a loss of human life, a tragic event that my moral conscience and sense of responsibility cannot accept (...) Faced with the lack of appropriate responses and concrete actions, I can no longer continue to assume functions within a structure that has failed to address such a human and social emergency," he writes.
The loss of life he mentions occurred last night when Abdoulaye Ba, a second-year medical student at Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD), died. The circumstances of his death are still unclear, but according to some of his relatives, he was beaten to death by police officers in his room. His death occurred during clashes between law enforcement and students at UCAD, who were protesting the payment of scholarships and the closure of university restaurants.
