« Devant les caméras, vous changez de discours » : Ayib Daffé solde ses comptes avec Tafsir Thioye
The debate surrounding the electoral code reform is heating up in the National Assembly. Ayib Daffé, president of the Pastef parliamentary group, reacted strongly to accusations of violating the rules of procedure made by his colleague Tafsir Thioye, denouncing what he considers an inconsistent stance. Addressing the assembly, Daffé minced no words, directly challenging his opponent's conduct. He pointed out that Thioye had participated in committee work without raising any irregularities. "If there was a violation, you covered it up in committee," he declared, accusing Thioye of changing his tune once in front of the cameras.
According to the president of the Pastef group, MP Thioye actively participated in committee debates, including speaking, without ever mentioning any breach of the rules. "You spoke in committee and you didn't mention any violation. It's only now that you're talking about it in front of the cameras," he insisted. Going further, Ayib Daffé asserted that if an irregularity truly existed, Tafsir Thioye could not be exonerated: "If there is a violation, you are complicit," he stated in a direct attack reflecting the growing tension within the chamber.
On the substance of the matter, the Pastef MP defends the regularity of the procedure. He maintains that all steps were followed "to the letter," from the committee work to the plenary session. He specifically contests Tafsir Thioye's interpretation of the provisions relating to the emergency procedure. According to him, his colleague misunderstands the meaning of the texts, particularly regarding the procedures for putting the submitted requests to a vote. "You're getting lost in your reading," he retorted, referring to a conflation in the interpretation of parliamentary rules.
Ayib Daffé also clarified that since the emergency procedure was not initiated directly in plenary session, criticisms based on the requirement for an immediate vote are invalid. He then called for the rejection of the preliminary question raised by Tafsir Thioye, arguing that it was based on a misinterpretation of the National Assembly's rules of procedure.
